A Hot Summer Fashion Trend: Dressing Like It’s the 1980s!

Matching the 80 degree temps with my ’80s-inspired outfit!

Pretty in Pastel

The 1980’s is a huge fashion trend this year and it might conjure up images of shoulder pads, big hair, and splashy patterns, but there’s also another side that is actually quite sweet and replicable for summer.

Personally I love the over-the-top ’80s (as seen all over my social media lol) but I thought it’d be fun to play with this softer side thanks to some clothes I found in my June thrift haul that were begging to be worn together.

Keep reading for more tips about incorporating this decade into your outfits this season!

Join The Club

The 1980s had a fashion trend for everyone, with my outfit in this post being distinctly preppy. A pastel striped blouse, skater skirt, Ked knock-offs? Just give me a country club membership and I’d be all set for a tennis match!

Like I said, I wouldn’t normally sport this look as I have nothing in common with the common prep lifestyle but I think it’s pretty and aesthetically pleasing, nonetheless.

Summer Schooled

Now would be the perfect time to catch up with some classic ’80s flicks and study the fashions that are trending this year!

For a look like mine, I would recommend The Heathers, Pretty in Pink, Lucas, and Footloose. (Not preppy at all but the pastels and late ’70s vibes are a great match!)

Prep In My Step

If you’re just getting into this decade dressing thing and not sure where to start, try to stick with details that you can add to your already modern outfits. A few examples from my outfit you might considering trying are costume jewelry, a forever classic Ked-style sneaker, or even lightening up your make up!

There’s no need to dress excessively with this trend because I wholly believe the ’80s are best left to be worn in pieces or else you cross into costume territory. Though that might be awesome with Halloween coming up…

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to get back to my time machine! ?
