Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog

I am a mom of 2 awesome + energetic boys + wife to the most supportive + hardworking husband. I left my career as Director of Staff Development for an events + catering company about 4 years ago + since then had one more child, opened + closed a brick + mortar home decor store {Vita Mode}, worked on the side as an interior decorator + recently started blogging more full-time.

Vita Mode the blog was designed to inspire living life with intention + a personal style that is simple + classic with the mission of shifting focus back to what positively feeds us and encourages others to be good, do good + live better.

The Vita Mode Lifestyle blog aims to inspire the modern woman to live a life that is simple, yet refined + classic with an edge. It is for the woman who wants to create a better lifestyle for herself + family and focuses on quality, not quantity. I encourage others to infuse life with personal touches rather than following trends, to create a life with minimal fuss + where we buy less, but buy better. You will find inspiration for the home, fashion, health + beauty, recipes + musings to encourage thoughtful reflection.

How long have you been blogging and what inspired you to get started?

I began blogging in 2016 but in the past 3 months have become more serious about developing my business tactics + growing my online presence + brand.

Was there anything that ever held you back from blogging or made you apprehensive?

Being a huge introvert + extremely self-conscious it was hard to really put myself + my thoughts out there because I didn’t think they were good enough. But after receiving positive feedback over time it has helped strengthen my confidence.

Do you blog full time or on the side? If on the side, what’s your profession?

Full-time as of 3 months ago.

What’s your best general career advice?

The best career advice I can give is whatever you do, do it with passion, integrity + service. It doesn’t matter if you switch careers a million times, if you are not doing something you love + with purpose, you are serving no one… especially not yourself.

What do you think makes someone a #girlboss?

I think a girl boss is a strong woman who doesn’t necessarily want to take career options from men but wants to create a business or be in the position of empowerment that is suitable for a female. A girl boss can prove to others, through grace, intelligence + perseverance, that it IS possible for a woman to be successful in a position of power without having to give up the things that make her uniquely female.

What are you favorite ways to make yourself feel confident?

When I finally find time, getting my hair done is life-changing! On any given day though, just putting on nice clothes can make a huge difference!

What advice would you give someone who is struggling to find their personal style?

Look to others for inspiration but DON’T copy. Evaluate your lifestyle + personality to figure out what works + take a look at your current closet: what are the pieces you wear the most + love; which ones haven’t gone out of style; and which ones flatter you best? Find well fitted pieces because nothing is worse than constantly adjusting your clothes.

What is your go-to power outfit?

When I was in the corporate setting a pair of structure, ankle length pants or a knee length pencil skirt with structured, pointy heels with a more fluid but well fitted top {the women in Suits have the BEST power outfits!}

Now days, black or dark washed fitted jeans, blouse + blazer with pointy heels is my go-to.

How do you feel women could do a better job supporting one another?

It’s easy to become defensive of all our hard work + achievements + want to remain successful but this isn’t done by holding others back or operating in a bubble.

Whether you’re a blogger or starting your own company don’t fear letting in ones that know more than you do. The most successful people surround themselves with others who are better at certain things so they can learn from them. Just be sure to ALWAYS be appreciative + offer to support + promote them in return. Just be sure you are letting in those who you resonant with + can support with confidence.

Do you ever experience social media envy? If so, how do you overcome it?

All. The. Time. With picture perfect feeds, a strong follower game + witty posts it’s so hard not to. What I have started to do though is to learn lessons from those who are succeeding then adjusting them to fit my brand + mission. I’ve turned from envy toward inspiration.

What advice would you give to an aspiring blogger?

So many things to share from past mistakes!

Most important: There is NO magic potion! Success comes from knowing your WHY, your WHO, hard work, creativity, showing up + listening to your followers.

Other pearls of wisdom: blog because you want to, not because you have to. Don’t expect to become an overnight sensation or make a ton of money right out of the gate. And as I said before, you can’t do this in a bubble + you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Find other bloggers you resonant with + start interacting with them. They may not all respond favorably but you will eventually find those who will support you. Community is key to growth.
Don’t fall for gimmicks. Information is out there, everywhere, and for free. If you are going to spend money, invest in someone who will give you personal attention for your brand instead of a general class or mastermind group that may never touch on your particular niche.

Finally, to thine own self be true! {William Shakespeare}
