My Year Summed Up In One Outfit

My Year Summed Up In One Outfit

As the old saying goes.. wear your heart on your sleeve and your life on your suspenders?

It’s the time of year when everyone looks back to reflect on what the heck just happened.

While I do plan on coming up with a proper round-up post, this outfit is a more literal approach to looking back at 2016. Turns out, most of life can be summed up in one cleverly written button!

The inspiration behind this outfit came from the music video for the song Monkey by (the now late) George Michael. He’s an icon to me both through his music and in his fashion so it feels fitting to pay my respects to him through what I’m wearing.

I just received the black suspenders for Christmas and dreamed of covering them in enamel pins. Maybe I should add it to my list of fun ways to wear flair?

Of course I had to add my thrifted George Michael pin but then I added 10 others that embodied a moment in time from my life this year. It’s daunting to wear your emotions on your clothes!

This year was full of really high highs and super low lows for me. I look forward to reflecting on the positive fashion-related ones in my next post.. and forgetting about all the awful ones forever.

But if George Michael taught us anything it’s that we gotta faith! Faith that everything will work out and that all the heartbreak and crappy feelings we have are just preparing us for a big, bright future.

And even in the tough times, at least we can dress cute, right?

It was so sad to learn of his passing.

This is a very fun totally 80’s quirky outfit. Half the time when I visit your blog it is like I’m living my youth ; P That’s not a bad thing.

Here’s to a much better 2017!

bisous

What a cute tribute to George Michael – he was a favorite in my house growing up as well. I love this look on you – I have a pair of suspenders from years ago…perhaps it’s time to dust ’em off and get them incorporated into my wardrobe again! They’re so fun!
