When was the last time you got your best buds together for an old fashioned sleepover? After reading this guide for a throwback-inspired night, you just might want to clear a date with your friends to host one as soon as possible!
Because The Outfit Repeater is a very nostalgia driven space, I wanted to share with you ideas for hosting a sleepover reminiscent of the ones I hosted as a teen back in the ’00s. (They didn’t call me the sleepover queen for nothing!) This would be the perfect bash to throw with your fellow grown-up friends to send them off to college, work, or even before a big move.

Pajama Party (What To Wear)
If nothing else, having cute pajamas makes even the most routine sleepover seem more special.
I love wearing a quirky night shirt or printed bottoms to show off my personality. The outfit I’m wearing here is an old band tee + pants I bought from Target a year or two. It’s my most worn (and favorite!) PJ combo.

Scene It (Decor Ideas)
You shouldn’t have to go out of your way to dress up your space but make sure it’s clean and has a few retro elements to spark nostalgia (and maybe jealousy that you own a rare, cool collectible) in your friends.
Stop by a thrift store and aim to find things like a Caboodles case, early 2000s magazines, CDs to jam out to, and maybe a funky wall art piece to admire.
Also, be sure to tell everyone to bring their favorite sleeping bag, pillow, and stuffed animal! Just because you’re adults doesn’t mean you have to be boring.
Oh What Fun (What To Do)
While it may be tempting to take the easy way out and just pop in a movie and eat junk food, nothing about that would make it a very unforgettable night, right?
Instead I like to keep out a small selection of my beloved vintage board games – Girl Talk, Mall Madness, Secret Diary, just to name a few – and have a few “instant” games in mind like Would You Rather?, Truth or Dare, and the ever classic Marry, Date, Dump.
If you insist on just viewing a movie, either choose a group fave or one of my most watched flicks like Sleepover, Mannequin, and Aquamarine.
Isn’t That Special? (Extra Details)
What will really set this night apart from all the rest is the people you spend it with. I’m sure we all have our own strange sleepover traditions like pranking our neighbors, making dumb videos for YouTube, insisting on only using an instant camera to capture the night, and others.
Try to incorporate those elements into your sleepover and I’m sure your friends will be amazed that you remembered those little details.
Have lots of fun with it! Often times the best nights are the ones you don’t over plan for.
