A Simple Way To Wear Shorts With Tights

I’ll try to keep this short.. here’s the simple way I wear shorts with tights.

Now that fall is in it’s prime, I’m going through my favorite outfits pretty quick.

There’s only so many ways I can wear tights with my skirt or dresses before I get bored. And don’t even get me started on how often I put my limited pant selection to use!

Thankfully I thrifted what I call “winter shorts”, in my last thrift haul video, and they’re just the thing to shake up my dressing routine.

I styled almost this exact outfit for my autumn thrifted look book video but loved it so much that I wanted to put it together for a proper blog post. A few of you had asked about what to wear with shorts like these and this is what I came up with.

Shorts with tights feels kind of classy to me (but not really because they’re totally wearable for any occasion) so I played with that idea and added a sheer white button down and a vintage sweater vest on top.

To add a little quirk, I pinned a squirrel brooch at the collar. It’s made from a pair of wooden earrings I picked up at a garage sale. I sent the other one to my friend Kristina of Eyre Effect because she’s the queen of brooches. I guess you could say we’re pin pals now. ?

If you’re looking for another way to wear shorts with tights, my friend Ruta of Mademoiselle Ruta just posted a similar look. Great minds think alike!

Now I want to know how you would style these shorts! Are you brave enough to wear them with tights in the colder weather or do you have a different idea for them? Let me know in the comments!

  • love, love, LOVE shorts and tights! You’ve styled them so wonderfully!
    xo, Ingrid

  • I always forget about this combo! Sometimes I’ll wear tights with denim shorts but I haven’t tried it with dressy shorts in a long time. You look so cute, lady!

    • Thanks, Valery! Denim and tights is so grunge and cool. I hope to see you rockin’ this on your blog soon!

      • I need to! Especially since it’s still like 90 degrees here -_-

  • Noelle

I had to run over and read this whole post because this outfit is amazing. Dressy shorts and tights are one of my favorite combos in the cooler months and I’m pretty sure you know my feeling on that sweater. <3 <3 <3

    • Haha I love it, Noelle! Thanks for all the extra love and comments about this look. 🙂

  • I LOVE that vest! This whole outfit is just fantastic, and now I kind of want to run and get myself some winter shorts! You pull this off so well!

  • Rūta

This is essentially my uniform from university. I love shorts and tights, and I still love them obviously, but I used to wear the combo a lot more before. I really like the design on your vest. From far away it looks like a sketch of a Gustav Klimt painting.

    • Haha I remember seeing it a bunch of your blog back in the day. You may have unconsciously inspired this look. 😉 Good call on the vest – it does look like a Gustav Klimt painting!
