What I Wore To Work At Maurices

We’re finally past the busy holiday season, winter dressing is in full effect, and spring trends are starting to drop!

Working at a local Maurices as a social media manager, I get to see all the styles firsthand and try them on for our  Instagram and Facebook pages.

It’s definitely a lot of fun playing dress up but even more rewarding that I get to share them with you all and talk through the fits. #DreamJob

Let’s explore what I’ve been wearing lately to the store, in the store, and beyond!

    Festive Fits

The holiday season was fast and fun, as usual. Red is really my color so I was in my element with all the new arrivals. I even stepped outside my comfort zone with a baseball cap. Who am I?!

And while I didn’t work any floor shifts, I did stop in to join our Ugly Sweater competition on social media. What do you think of my cat sweater?! I think it’s purrrfect!

    Dressing in Dark Colors

I always feel incognito when I wear black. Two of these are actually the same outfit-it’s what I wore on Black Friday with and without a coat. I popped into the store to host a live video so I wanted to look cute with my clothes from home!

The other looks were created with pieces at the store. I really went hard with the styling videos this season so those looks are from that!

    Brrrgundy Outfits

I didn’t realize until writing this post how much burgundy we’ve had in the store lately! All of these looks were styled at different times but look pretty stylish when seen side-by-side!

It is a color I like to wear. It can be paired with so much! Which one is your favorite?

    Just Jeanuary Things

Did you know January is a great time for clearance AND for buying jeans? It’s when an onslaught of new denim trends arrives for the year.

I know it can be intimidating trying to squeeze into jeans after the holiday season but luckily most of them are made with comfy stretch these days. I may have even bought a pair from this round-up. Any guesses which ones?

Fits From Home & Cozy Layers

Most of my work is done from home but when I need to run to the store to grab photos or say ‘hey’ to my co-workers, I love coming up with some new combos from my thrifted closet.

The first two outfits are a mix of old Maurices pieces and some of my trusty thrifted faves. The last outfits are ones I made up in the store using cozy pieces we had at the time.

    In Clothes-ing

    And that’s all for now!

If you’re ever in need of a wardrobe update, be sure to stop by Maurices and look around. Who knows, you may just find your next favorite outfit!

Do you need a style number for a Maurices piece or more information about something I’m wearing? Let me know in the comments!

Also, be sure to Pin your favorite outfit to recreate later!

  • 8 Last Minute Christmas Outfit Ideas

    Last-Minute Christmas Outfit Ideas

I’ll keep this intro short & sweet since we all have last-minute holiday things going on.

Thinking about what to wear shouldn’t be one of them so I want to take some of the stress out of planning so you can focus on Christmas.

Here are 8 last-minute Christmas outfit ideas to wear for any style or occasion!

Sleigh The Season in Something Shiny

Sequins, metallics, and glittery pieces are so fun to wear right now!

Pull out all your favorite dresses, blouses, and shiny skirts and play around with styling them for extra holiday oomph!

Not a big fan of bold? Add a few statement accessories to jazz up your everyday look for the holidays!

    A Casual Christmas: Laidback Looks

If even the holidays can’t make you wear a skirt, I got you! Embrace the comfort of your favorite jeans and sweaters while adding Christmas-y touches.

Pair a festive top with some cozy pants but keep the whole look in red & green Christmas colors. Remember: comfort and festive are not mutually exclusive!

A Classic Christmas: Red and Green Outfit Ideas

For all my Christmas purists, I think you’ll love these 3 outfits using a classic red and green color palette. The iconic red and green combo never goes out of style, but it doesn’t have to be predictable.

I channeled your favorite North Pole characters and ended up dressed as a quirky elf in suspenders, a Christmas tree with bright red tights, and, of course, the gift that goes under the tree!

If these don’t scream holiday cheer then I don’t know what does!

  • The Perfect Outfit For Christmas In July

hannah is standing in a yard surrounded by greenery. she's wearing a red tank top, white kimono, olive green shorts, and white platform sandals.Getting Into The Christmas Spirit

    Merry Christmas in July!

It’s a time to escape the heat and immerse ourselves in the enchantment of twinkling lights, festive decorations, and delightful gatherings.

But what do you wear when the temps are warmer than a crackling fire on Christmas morning?

If you’re lucky enough to reside in a tropical climate, you’re probably a pro at celebrating in lightweight attire.

However, for the rest of us used to a traditional white Christmas, I’ve got a couple of style ideas up my sleeve to ensure your mid-summer holiday extravaganza is nothing short of fabulous!

    Why Celebrate Christmas In July?

Christmas in July is the best because there’s no pressure to buy gifts. It’s all the good parts of celebrating like wearing red and green, eating cookies, and watching cheesy Hallmark movies!

I recently went to a Christmas in July celebration which is what prompted this outfit—though no doubt I’d rock red and green on their own, just for fun, at any time of the year.

hannah is standing in a yard surrounded by greenery. she's wearing a red tank top, white kimono, olive green shorts, and white platform sandals. hannah is standing in a yard surrounded by greenery. she's wearing a red tank top, white kimono, and olive green shorts.

What To Wear For Christmas in July

To get my outfit into the Christmas in July spirit, I opted for all lightweight (and comfortable!) pieces.

I chose to wear traditional Christmas colors—a red tank top and thrifted olive green shorts. They’re definitely a complete outfit on their own but I wanted to include a pretty white cover-up to add some interest and depth to the look.

From there, accessorizing was simple. I picked a pair of colorful beaded earrings that kept the outfit from looking too Christmas-y, and could easily be worn throughout my day for other activities.

These sandals and sunglasses are some of my most-worn items this summer and I ain’t mad about it! It’s good to have some go-to pieces when the heat turns your brain into mush.

    Christmas Is Coming

Celebrating Christmas in July is not only a fun way to feel the holiday spirit in the middle of a heatwave or an excuse to drink hot cocoa, but it’s also a good reminder to get started on your shopping list if you plan to thrift your gifts! It’s never too soon to start stockpiling little (or big!) finds to give away during the holiday season.

What are you wearing for Christmas in July? Have you started your shopping list?

If you enjoyed this post, please be sure to Pin it for later!

  • What I Wore To Drag Queen Bingo in The Midwest

What I Wore For Drag Queen Bingo

I got dressed to SLEIGH at Drag Queen Bingo this month. There were so many sequins in one room!

This was my third time attending Drag Queen Bingo at Kelch’s Aviation Museum in Brodhead, Wisconsin and it did not disappoint. Even without a single win (after all this time!) it’s still so much fun to get dressed up, eat snacks, and support the incredibly hardworking performers.

Speaking of dressing up… here’s what I wore for such an ex-drag-vagant event!

What I Wore To Drag Queen Bingo

The loose theme for Bingo this month was “holiday” and I knew exactly what outfit would match the occasion.

I pulled out this rainbow sequin striped sweater that I thrifted many years ago. It still makes me smile when I see it just like the first time I saw it hanging in the aisles of a thrift store.

I always wonder about what adventures the original owner had in this sweater and hope I’m living up to the fabulousness that it exudes!

    👗 WHAT I’M WEARING 💄
Vintage/thrifted sequin sweater, shorts, and beret, >$10 | Old Walmart ballet flats, $10 (shop similar) | Unknown tights | Maurices Christmas sweater earrings, $10

I ripped off a look I wore forever ago on my blog and styled the long sweater with a pair of shorts, colorful tights, and plain black flats.

I did add a new accessory – some Christmas sweater earrings I picked up with my associate discount from Maurices! They had SO many fun holiday earrings to choose from this year but these ones stood out to me the most.

TIP: Watch my “Get Ready With Me” video on TikTok to see this outfit in action!

What The QUEENS Wore For Bingo

I’m not the only thrift store lover – so are the queens! We chatted after the show about some of the best local (and online) stores for colorful statement pieces. I always love seeing what they’re gonna wear!

👑 Pictured are: Yvette La Marx, me, and Andi ‘With an I’. And below that is Capri Sun! Be sure to follow them on Instagram to find out their performance schedule and get a peek at their process for getting ready.

And follow Wisco Drag Bingo on Instagram for more show times and updates! And keep tabs on me to see what I wear for Bingo next month!

How To Rewear Your Party Clothes Later

Here’s a little secret: you can wear party clothes to other events. You just have to restyle them strategically!

If you’re done with your fabulous New Year’s Eve outfit and want to bring the oomph back into those clothes, read on…

How To Restyle… A Sequin Tee

I love that this silver sequin tee adds sparkle to whatever you’re wearing.

For my dressy look, I paired it with black and imagined it for a cool NYE outfit. Then after the party, you can throw on jeans and a playful moto jacket for a more laidback vibe!

    How To Restyle… Plaid Pants

My thrifted plaid pants get a lot of wear year round so I had fun thinking up two completely opposite looks.

For the holidays – maybe getting a tree or doing some last-minute gift shopping – I wore them with a red sweater, cozy coat, and matching accessories.

But when that’s all over with, these thrifted plaid pants are the perfect companion for a vintage band sweatshirt and distressed denim jacket. I’m all ready for a rock concert!

    How To Restyle… A LBD

Everyone likely has a little black dress – whether it’s a wrap, shift, or some other silhouette.

I went back to basics with mine and styled it with completely black accessories for a formal affair, and then lightened it up with a denim jacket and practical flats for a more everyday look.

How To Restyle… A Sequin Dress

Sequins are so much fun to wear but you might not always want the attention that comes with wearing them.

So, go all out with your boldest accessories and wear it for NYE. Then restyle it later with the same jeans + moto jacket trick I shared in the first example.

How To Restyle… A Plaid Blazer

There’s nothing more “holiday” than a tartan plaid pattern. It’s everywhere! For me, it’s part of one of my most beloved thrifted blazers.

I do tend to struggle with this particular plaid past the holidays but I tried my best to imagine it like any other red top in my closet.

For a party look, it was easy to wear with a black dress and red accessories. For something more casual, I styled it with a graphic tee, palazzo pants, and sneakers. In hindsight, I wish I had done wide-leg jeans. Learn from my mistake! (Or take my inspo as-is!)

How To Restyle… A Metallic Jumpsuit

This silver metallic jumpsuit that I thrifted really makes a statement! However, I’ve found that it’s really easy to restyle.

I’ve previously added a crop top over the top portion to give the illusion that I own cool, silver pants. For this example, I flipped that and put on palazzo pants (that match the length and volume of the ‘suit) and dressed it WAY down with a denim jacket.

It hardly looks like the same jumpsuit!

    Christmas Wrapping It Up

So next time you’re stuck on styling a “party” piece, remember there is plenty of opportunity to take your holiday clothes and rewear them.

Restyling your holiday clothes allows you to use your investment piece more often and extend its life. That’s totally The Outfit Repeater way!

thrifted christmas outfit green turtleneck thredup white moto jacket red beanie hat

Every fashionista wants to dress cool but not break the bank, especially at Christmas when you want to save money and spend it on the special people on your gift list! Here’s how I sleigh my holiday outfits and navigate multiple gatherings as an outfit repeater!

    Christmas Time Again

The holidays are truly our time to shine. There are so many fun occasions to dress up for that you might get swept up in the idea that you have to buy something new to wear to all of them.

Not only is this silly because most people won’t notice that you re-wore your favorite red pants (you’d actually probably get a ton of compliments), but it can also get costly!

    One Outfit, Multiple Parties

I only buy new clothes for events every once in a while. After years of being an outfit repeater, my first instinct is to always shop my own closet after I get a party invite. (And let’s be honest, those aren’t flooding my inbox!)

But if I was the type of person who had a big social life, I could see this outfit fitting in at a friend gathering, a festive Zoom Christmas party, or watching a lights display from the warmth of my vehicle.

Plus each piece can be mixed and matched on its own. I just wore this green turtleneck for Thanksgiving last month and I plan to wear the heck of these red pants for Valentine’s Day!

    Treat Your’elf

Because my entire outfit was sourced secondhand for a steal; that means I have enough money left over to buy some awesome (and thrifty) gifts for my family & friends this year.

Buying online from thredUP also meant I got exactly what I wanted without having to compromise my personal style this holiday season. I just typed in what I wanted in the search bar, like “white moto jacket”, and found several options!

I love that thrifting is a fun and affordable way to treat yourself and others!

What kind of secondhand gifts did you buy for others this year? My go-to is always books and games! (ignore that if you’re someone in my family lol)

  • Your Guide to Shopping Small & Sustainable This Holiday Season

Why You Should Shop Small This Holiday Season

Time is flying by and we’re already headed into the holiday season.

This year is going to look different with virtual gatherings, smaller get togethers, or even no celebration at all.

However, if you’re going to be giving out gifts, it’s important to start as early as possible. I know you hear that every year but with the new norm of everyone shipping out gifts to loved ones, there’s a high chance of mail delays like we’ve never seen before.

When considering where or how to shop, I’d encourage you to choose small businesses that put the money back into your community or stores that give a percentage of their profits to a good cause. Let’s lift one another up this holiday season!

Below is a big round-up of round-ups that I’ve been collecting for some time now. It’s a great jumping off point to get you started on your holiday shopping or as something you can reference to later in the year when you’re shopping for another reason.

Please be sure to share it with friends or Pin it if you find it valuable! (That’s one way to help me without spending a dime! 🙂)
